Breasts and Eggs

Finished Mieko Kawakami’s book—recommended by Carey Petrie. The plotlessness wouldn’t have irritated me if I had been more invested in the subject - or more specifically, if I’d been fascinated by what the characters had to say about the desire to mother/parent (but no, maybe mother only) and the lack thereof. The one piece that felt like a purposeful hole—that I wish hadn’t been—was the book we skimmed over, written by the protagonist but rarely mentioned materially although its existence altered her life. I’m still thinking about the way the conversations happened. And the several issues dropped in but never dealt with… Mieko’s possible asexuality. It stuck I think. I’d like to know what others have said about it.
